GoodFellas - HVAC Company Boulder, Northglenn, Thornton, Superior, Niwot

American Standard is a renowned brand in the HVAC industry, known for its commitment to quality, innovation, and energy efficiency. Their high efficiency furnaces are designed to deliver exceptional heating performance while minimizing energy consumption and environmental impact. These furnaces utilize advanced features such as variable speed motors, multi-stage burners, and sophisticated control systems to optimize airflow, combustion, and overall system efficiency.

Why is High Efficiency Furnace Repair Important?

Maintaining the efficiency and performance of your American Standard high efficiency furnace is crucial for several reasons:

  1. Energy Savings: High efficiency furnaces are engineered to operate with minimal energy consumption, which can translate to significant cost savings on your monthly utility bills. Proper maintenance and timely repairs help ensure that your furnace continues to deliver these energy-saving benefits.
  2. Improved Indoor Air Quality: Well-functioning high efficiency furnaces can help maintain optimal indoor air quality by effectively filtering and circulating the air throughout your home. This is especially important for households with family members who have respiratory conditions or allergies.
  3. Extended Lifespan: Proactive furnace repair and maintenance can help extend the overall lifespan of your American Standard heating system, allowing you to maximize your investment and avoid the need for premature replacement.
  4. Safety and Comfort: Addressing furnace issues promptly can help prevent potential safety hazards, such as carbon monoxide leaks, and ensure that your home remains consistently comfortable throughout the heating season.

Common Issues with American Standard High Efficiency Furnaces

Like any complex mechanical system, American Standard high efficiency furnaces can experience a variety of issues over time. Some of the most common problems include:

  1. Ignition Failure: The furnace’s ignition system may fail, preventing the burners from lighting and the system from generating heat.
  2. Airflow Problems: Blockages or malfunctions in the blower motor or ductwork can result in insufficient airflow, leading to uneven heating or the furnace shutting down.
  3. Thermostat Malfunctions: Issues with the thermostat, such as inaccurate temperature readings or programming errors, can disrupt the furnace’s operation and temperature control.
  4. Sensor Failures: Faulty sensors, such as the flame sensor or pressure switch, can cause the furnace to shut down or prevent it from starting up.
  5. Electrical and Control Board Issues: Problems with the furnace’s electrical components, including the control board, can lead to various operational problems.
  6. Wear and Tear: Over time, regular use can cause wear and tear on furnace components, such as the heat exchanger, blower motor, or gas valve, leading to reduced efficiency or complete system failure.

Signs that Your American Standard Furnace Needs Repair

Recognizing the signs that your American Standard furnace requires attention is the first step in addressing potential issues. Some common indicators include:

  • Reduced Heating Capacity: If your home is not reaching the desired temperature or takes longer to heat up, it may be a sign of a furnace problem.
  • Frequent Cycling: A furnace that turns on and off repeatedly or runs for short periods may indicate an issue with the thermostat, airflow, or other components.
  • Strange Noises: Unusual sounds, such as banging, whistling, or grinding, can suggest mechanical problems within the furnace.
  • Uneven Heating: If certain rooms in your home are significantly warmer or cooler than others, it could be a sign of an airflow or distribution issue.
  • Increased Energy Bills: A sudden spike in your energy costs, without a change in usage, may indicate that your furnace is working harder than necessary to heat your home.
  • Pilot Light or Burner Issues: Problems with the pilot light or burners, such as the pilot light going out or the burners not igniting properly, can be a sign of a more serious issue.

Steps to Troubleshoot Common Furnace Problems

Before calling for professional furnace repair, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take to identify and potentially resolve minor issues:

  1. Check the Thermostat: Ensure that the thermostat is set to the correct temperature and that it is functioning properly. Replace the batteries if necessary, and check for any programming errors.
  2. Inspect the Air Filters: Clogged or dirty air filters can restrict airflow and cause the furnace to work harder. Replace the filters according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
  3. Examine the Furnace’s Electrical Components: Check the circuit breaker or fuse to ensure that the furnace is receiving power. Also, inspect the wiring and connections for any signs of damage or loose connections.
  4. Inspect the Furnace’s Venting System: Make sure the exhaust and intake vents are clear of obstructions and that the flue pipe is properly sealed and secured.
  5. Check for Airflow Blockages: Ensure that all supply and return air vents are unobstructed and that the blower compartment is free of debris.
  6. Inspect the Furnace’s Pilot Light or Ignition System: If the furnace has a pilot light, ensure that it is lit. For furnaces with electronic ignition, check for any signs of malfunction.
  7. Monitor the Furnace’s Operation: Pay attention to any unusual sounds, odors, or behavior, as these can be early indicators of a more significant problem.

If you’ve tried these troubleshooting steps and the issue persists, it’s best to contact a professional HVAC technician for further diagnosis and repair.

DIY Tips for American Standard Furnace Repair

While some minor furnace repairs can be tackled by homeowners, it’s essential to proceed with caution and only attempt tasks you feel comfortable and capable of performing. Here are a few DIY tips for American Standard furnace repair:

  1. Replace Air Filters: Changing the air filters is a relatively simple task that can be done regularly to maintain your furnace’s efficiency.
  2. Clean the Furnace’s Exterior: Gently wipe down the exterior of the furnace, removing any dust or debris that may have accumulated.
  3. Check and Reset the Thermostat: Ensure the thermostat is set correctly and try resetting it if the furnace is not responding as expected.
  4. Inspect and Clean the Blower: Carefully remove the blower compartment and use a vacuum or compressed air to clean the blower and its components.
  5. Lubricate Moving Parts: Apply a small amount of HVAC-approved lubricant to any moving parts, such as the blower motor, as recommended by the manufacturer.

It’s important to note that more complex furnace repairs, such as addressing electrical issues, replacing major components, or working with gas lines, should be left to professional HVAC technicians. Attempting these tasks without the proper training and equipment can be dangerous and may even void the manufacturer’s warranty.

The Importance of Professional Furnace Repair

While DIY troubleshooting and minor repairs can be helpful, it’s crucial to recognize the importance of professional furnace repair services, especially for American Standard high efficiency furnaces. Here’s why:

  1. Expertise and Training: HVAC technicians have the specialized knowledge and training to accurately diagnose and effectively repair a wide range of furnace issues, ensuring the problem is resolved correctly the first time.
  2. Safety Considerations: Furnace repairs, particularly those involving gas lines or electrical components, require a high level of safety precautions. Professional technicians have the necessary certifications, tools, and experience to handle these tasks safely.
  3. Warranty Preservation: Attempting unauthorized repairs on your American Standard furnace may void the manufacturer’s warranty. Working with a qualified technician helps ensure that any warranty-covered issues are addressed properly.
  4. Long-Term Performance: Professional furnace repair services can help extend the lifespan of your heating system, maintain its efficiency, and prevent more costly breakdowns in the future.
  5. Comprehensive Maintenance: In addition to repairs, HVAC professionals can provide comprehensive maintenance services to keep your American Standard furnace running at its best, including tune-ups, cleaning, and system inspections.

My A/C unit would run but was not emitting cold air in my condo. So Shawn from GoodFellas came out to check it out and end result- I needed a new unit! So a new unit was installed the next day by Jay and Rodger. I have to say that all three individuals were very pleasant to work, explained their steps as installing and ensuring everything worked in excellent condition! These guys answered all my concerns, questions and we felt very comfortable to work with… A new thermostat was also installed as well as Good Fellas also sent their electricians to replace an outdated Disconnect for the new A/C unit. With all this service and new equipment installed, it’s another aspect of my condo staying safe!! Thanks to great techs, reps, electricians & staff @ GoodFellas!!!

I can't speak highly enough about EVERYONE at Goodfellas! Our 22 year old AC unit died during the first hot week of the year. Goodfellas was out that day and we got the AC unit installed very quickly. Everyone from the office (they picked up my call at 6:30 AM!), from Sean to the entire install team. They are very professional and courteous. I really am so glad that they are on my home team. The previous owners of our house used Goodfellas to install the furnace and water heater in 2017 and we have continued to keep them for our annual maintenance (highly recommend getting this plan) for your peace of mind. Call Goodfellas! They are such a great team to have working for you. Thank you to everyone at the company - really appreciate all your service and experience!

In February 2024, I had a new heater installed. Initially, I experienced some problems with the new thermostat, which was promptly replaced. Fast forward to May, when I started using the air conditioner, I found my home was not cooling properly. Scott came to fix it right away, and I’m very grateful for the quick response. Although I didn’t catch all the names, one of the technicians, a new guy from Iowa who is currently in school and learning, was especially polite and professional. I believe he will be a great asset to your company. The team was efficient, quick to install the unit, and exhibited excellent manners throughout the process. Scott was the first to assist in February and, hopefully, the last I needed to call for a while after his visit last night. From dealing with freezing temperatures to resolving issues in the heat, everyone went above and beyond to help me. Overall, I had a great experience with your customer service and the speed at which the team addressed my concerns. Thank you for your outstanding service!
